A SINGLE FARM
Tenuta Castiglioni
Around the year 1000, the Frescobaldi family moved to Florence from the Val di Pesa, where they still own the Castiglioni Estate, their oldest agricultural property.
Here, we have 150 hectares of land that has always been used for growing wheat and other grains.

WHEAT AND DURUM WHEAT
THE TERROIR
The wheat is grown on the Frescobaldi Estates in the Val di Pesa, southwest of Florence, extending to the province of Livorno on the coast. This area has historically been suited to the cultivation of durum wheat, thanks to the symbiosis of cool soils, a mild climate, and afternoon breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The soil, characterized by a valuable clay component, is the vital guardian of our crops.
Once the wheat has sprouted, the clay acts as a deep water reservoir: it stores rainwater and releases it with skillful slowness, protecting the plains from water stress even during periods of drought.
The mild climate and afternoon breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea create the ideal conditions for respectful and sustainable agriculture.
